Return to Death

Mortician Murder Mysteries Book 1

Desperate to escape the shadow of her family’s mortuary business, Kay Lamberton runs off to serve as a nurse in Vietnam. Fifteen years later, her father’s death draws her back to her Florida hometown in an attempt to pick up the pieces and convince her brother, Lee, to sell the funeral home before they both wind up on the streets.

The last thing Kay expects to find upon her return is her high school sweetheart, laid out on a slab in the embalming room. While all signs point toward a simple drowning, it soon becomes clear to Kay and Lee that the funeral home’s newest client is the victim of murder.

Faced with an incompetent local sheriff and a case of insatiable curiosity, Kay is consumed with the need to find out what happened to her old flame. Kay and Lee join forces with a reluctant deputy, a bumbling assistant and a dotty housekeeper to track down the murderer and uncover a decade’s worth of secrets.

Gambling on Death

Mortician Murder Mysteries Book 2

Who killed Santa Claus? That’s the question on everyone’s mind when local appliance repairman and seasonal elf, Hubert Dobbs, is found stabbed to death in his shop. Well, almost everyone… For Kay and Lee Lamberton, the foremost question on their minds is whether their funeral home will get the business.

Odds appear to be in their favor when Dobbs’s estranged daughter Alison, an old school friend of Lee’s, shows up seeking their help. She needs access to her father’s house to determine his wishes regarding the funeral, but the local sheriff’s office has the house on lock-down as they conduct their investigation into the murder. Chivalry on Lee’s part and idle curiosity on Kay’s soon see the siblings acquiring a key to the house from a neighbor and sneaking inside in the dead of night.

What they find in the house leads to a tangled web of extramarital affairs, a local gambling ring and evidence that the cuckolded husband who’s been arrested for the murder is innocent. With the knowledge that the sheriff’s office is on the wrong track, Kay and Lee begin their own investigation to find the person who really killed Alison’s father. But how many more people will die before they find the answer?

Search for Death

Mortician Murder Mysteries Book 4

Rumors of a lost Spanish treasure have caused gold-rush fever among the residents of Lang, Florida. Kay and Lee Lamberton are completely unaware of it until the college professor who started the craze becomes the latest resident of their funeral home after being found dead and hanging upside down from a deer stand.

Memories of her time as a nurse in Vietnam cause Kay to suspect that Professor Harrington’s death was more than just an accident, but there’s no evidence to support her gut feeling… At least not until the disappearance of Dwayne McKenzie, who owns the property where the professor’s body was found. McKenzie was last seen in possession of a journal in which the professor had recorded his search for the gold. Convinced that this can’t be a coincidence, and stymied by a disinterested local sheriff, Kay and Lee launch their own investigation into the death and disappearance.

Before long, the list of suspects grows. Was it the professor’s ex-wife… or the treasure-obsessed employee of the local feed store… or even the teenaged boy with the strange habit of wandering the woods alone? Will Kay and Lee figure it out before there are even more bodies to bury?
